I’d heard about hot flashes of course but nothing could prepare me for the sudden heat radiating from my chest to arms to face mixed with anxiety and fear! One minute I’m fine, and the next I’m radiating enough heat to warm a room. Jumper on, jumper off, jumper on… sound familiar? Let me introduce you to my essential menopause gadgets!
If you’re here, you’re not alone and I’ve got you. Whether you’re deep in the sweats or just flirting with them, these clever menopause gadgets could actually make a difference. I’ve researched them obsessively so you don’t have to. (And if you buy via a link, it helps support the site – thank you 💛)
🌀 1. Embr Wave 2 – The Cool Wearable
I was extremely skeptical but it really has helped. The cost is HIGH but it really has worked wonders. It’s about the size of a watch that you wear on the inside of your wrist with two settings. When I recognise the familiar feeling of a flush coming on I press the 10 minute cool button. I still get the hot flashes but they are definitely less intense and don’t last as long. I use the 8 hour button at night and it helps enormously. It uses temperature pulse therapy to cool your inner wrist and help regulate your body’s sense of heat. It’s discreet, silent, and designed with menopause in mind.
Bonus: There’s an app so you can control it from your phone
Buy: Embr Wave 2
❄️ 2. Cooling Neck Fan – Your Private Air-Con
If you’re not bothered about subtlety, this one really helps on those hotter days. Since menopause I’m generally running a lot hotter and I swear by mine on those rare British hot days. I’m lucky to work alone in my studio so can wear with no embarrassment but unlucky that it’s a very old building with no aircon. These U-shaped fans sit around your neck and blow continuous cool air – no hands needed. Great for gardening, cooking, working…
Look for: one with multiple speed settings and a quiet motor
Buy: Portable neck fan
💨 3. Handheld Fan – Small but Mighty
You know the kind: fits in your handbag, saves your life in supermarket queues. There are lots on the market, but opt for a USB rechargeable one with decent airflow – and maybe one that doubles as a desk fan. I took mine to a steamy Glastonbury Festival and I was so glad I did.
Good for: travel, handbags, hot moments in public
Buy: Handheld fan
🛏️ 4. Cooling Gel Pillow – Always the Cool Side
This one’s for those sleepless, sweaty, sheet-kicking nights. The gel layer helps pull heat away from your body, keeping your head and neck cooler. The cooling effect doesn’t last long but it’s enough to take the edge off on the hottest of nights. Combine with cotton or linen pillowcases and bedding.
Note: You may want two – to cycle between them throughout the night
Buy: Cool gel pillow
💬 Final Thoughts
You don’t need to buy every gadget under the sun – but if one of these helps you feel more human again, it’s worth it. I’ll keep researching and updating menopause gadgets as new tech appears (because let’s face it, we deserve a little innovation).
If you’ve tried any of these – or found something even better – I’d love to hear about it. You can also sign up below for blog updates (no spam, just honest finds).
